My Favourite Teams to Use in Genshin Impact

My Favourite Teams to Use in Genshin Impact
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Genshin Impact is an open world, action RPG game created by Hoyoverse. Its gacha system allows players to wish on either limited or permanent banners to get characters and weapons.

As the game’s story continues to unfold, more playable characters become available, which means that there is a plethora of team combinations to choose from.

Down below, I have written for you the teams I enjoy playing with the most (in no particular order), as well as the builds I use for each character (I’ve provided alternatives for the 5-star and battle pass weapons I use). Please bear in mind that these are not the only builds possible, just what I found works best for me and my playstyle.

Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Yelan, Zhongli

This double hydro vaporize team is quite literally insane for single target damage, as long as you have enough energy recharge on both Xingqiu and Yelan to make sure their bursts align. The added protection from Zhongli’s shield and the small healing from Xingqiu’s burst give this team the survivability it needs. Overall, a great team to use to destroy bosses in the Spiral Abyss.

Build

  • Hu Tao:

Weapon: Death Match (or Dragon’s Bane)

Artefact set: 4p Crimson Witch of Flames (sands hp%, goblet pyro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Normal Attack/Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 36k hp, 112 elemental mastery, 64.7% crit rate, 206.5% crit damage, 105.8% energy recharge

  • Xingqiu:

Weapon: Sacrificial Sword

Artefact set: 4p Emblem of Severed Fate (sands energy recharge, goblet hydro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 21.3% crit rate, 115% crit damage, 281.5% energy recharge

  • Yelan:

Weapon: Favonius Warbow (r5)

  • Zhongli:

Weapon: Favonius Lance

Artefact set: 2p Noblesse Oblige and 2p Archaic Petra (sands hp%, goblet geo damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 33k hp, 42.3% crit rate, 123.8% crit damage, 133.8% energy recharge

Alhaitham, Nahida, Yae Miko, Kuki Shinobu

I was already sold on Alhaitham when we first met him in Sumeru, and was excited for the day he’d become playable. Then his trailer came, and oh what a masterpiece it was! And then he turned out to be an incredibly strong character. What more could you ask for?

He’s the first character I used a crown on, and I’ve tripled crowned him (shows how good he is, since I had refused to use my crowns until him, in fear of regretting it).

This Quicken team is pretty strong in both single target and AoE damage, and it’s really fun to play with.

Build

  • Alhaitham:

Weapon: Light of Foliar Incision (or Toukabou Shigure or Iron Sting)

Artefact set: 4p Gilded Dreams (sands elemental mastery, goblet dendro damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill/Normal Attack > Burst

My overall stats: 1,315 attack, 377 elemental mastery, 65.8% crit rate, 191.8% crit damage, 131.8% energy recharge

  • Nahida:

Weapon: Magic Guide (r5)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 630 elemental mastery, 50.5% crit rate, 92.7% crit damage

  • Yae Miko:

Weapon: Kagura’s Verity (or The Widsith, preferably r5)

Artefact set: 2p Shimenawa’s Reminiscence and 2p Thundering Fury (sands energy recharge, goblet electro damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 1,574 attack, 67.4% crit rate, 217.2% crit damage, 157.6% energy recharge

  • Kuki Shinobu:

Weapon: Iron Sting

Artefact set: 4p Gilded Dreams (sands energy recharge, goblet electro damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 266 elemental mastery, 58.7% crit rate, 95.1% crit damage, 169.9% energy recharge

Ayaka, Shenhe, Kazuha, Kokomi

Ayaka’s freeze team used to be my favourite team to use before the release of Sumeru and the introduction of playable dendro characters. I used to play it with Ganyu instead of Shenhe, and quickly realised that I enjoyed playing with dendro teams more. Until Shenhe got her first rerun banner. She pretty much changed everything. She makes this team stronger with her huge buffing ability, and thanks to her, my Ayaka has achieved damage I’d never seen from her before.

Build

  • Ayaka:

Weapon: Amenoma Kageuchi (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Blizzard Strayer (sands atk%, goblet cryo damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Normal Attack > Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 2,314 attack, 20.9% crit rate (4p Blizzard Strayer + cryo resonance give a huge crit rate boost so we don’t need as much crit rate), 194.1% crit damage, 133% energy recharge

  • Shenhe:

Weapon: Favonius Lance

Artefact set: 4p Noblesse Oblige (sands atk%, goblet atk%, circlet atk%)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 2,698 attack, 17.8% crit rate, 134.7% crit damage, 132.5% energy recharge

  • Kazuha:

Weapon: Iron Sting

Artefact set: 4p Viridescent Venerer (sands elemental mastery, goblet elemental mastery, circlet elemental mastery)

Talents priority: Skill/Burst

My overall stats: 868 elemental mastery, 153.1% energy recharge

  • Kokomi:

Weapon: Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Tenacity of the Millelith (sands hp%, goblet hp%, circlet healing bonus)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst > Normal Attack

My overall stats: 37k hp, 149.2% energy recharge

Alhaitham, Nahida, Yelan, Kuki Shinobu

Another Alhaitham team, this time focused on the hyperbloom reaction. I think this might be my favourite reaction at the moment, it’s just stupidly strong in both single target and AoE damage, it’s really fun, and I just don’t get tired of it. I sometimes switch Yelan for Xingqiu depending on my mood (I think I tend to use Yelan more for exploration and Xingqiu in the Spiral Abyss to get a bit more healing, but both of them work really well).

Build

  • Alhaitham:

Weapon: Light of Foliar Incision (or Toukabou Shigure or Iron Sting)

Artefact set: 4p Gilded Dreams (sands elemental mastery, goblet dendro damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill/Normal Attack > Burst

My overall stats: 1,315 attack, 377 elemental mastery, 65.8% crit rate, 191.8% crit damage, 131.8% energy recharge

  • Nahida:

Weapon: Magic Guide (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Deepwood Memories (sands elemental mastery, goblet dendro damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 630 elemental mastery, 50.5% crit rate, 92.7% crit damage

  • Yelan:

Weapon: Favonius Warbow (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Emblem of Severed Fate (sands hp%, goblet hydro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Burst

My overall stats: 30k hp, 43.6% crit rate, 141.7% crit dmg, 201.1% energy recharge

  • Kuki Shinobu:

Weapon: Iron Sting

Artefact set: 4p Gilded Dreams (sands elemental mastery, goblet elemental mastery, circlet healing bonus (you can use an elemental mastery circlet instead, but I’ve personally chosen to sacrifice a bit of elemental mastery for healing bonus to give more survivability to my team))

Talents priority: Not necessary to level talents, but I’ve levelled her skill to increase healing done

My overall stats: 639 elemental mastery, 33.8% crit rate, 100.5% crit damage, 116.8% energy recharge

Tartaglia, Kazuha, Xiangling, Bennett

Tartaglia is one of the earlier 5-star characters I got, and he was my favourite for a long time. His playstyle is not the easiest to master, but his riptide mechanic is unique and really fun. While I do admit that I don’t use this team a lot, I feel like it belongs on this list because I have great fun whenever I use it (and it did save me a few times in the Spiral Abyss, so I kind of owed it to them to include them in this article).

Build

  • Tartaglia:

Weapon: Polar Star (or The Viridescent Hunt or Rust)

Artefact set: 4p Heart of Depth (sands atk%, goblet hydro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Skill > Normal Attack > Burst

My overall stats: 1,749 attack, 57.1% crit rate, 168.9% crit damage, 121.4% energy recharge

  • Kazuha:

Weapon: Iron Sting

Artefact set: 4p Viridescent Venerer (sands elemental mastery, goblet elemental mastery, circlet elemental mastery)

Talents priority: Skill/Burst

My overall stats: 868 elemental mastery, 153.1% energy recharge

  • Xiangling:

Weapon: The Catch (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Crimson Witch of Flames (sands energy recharge, goblet pyro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 175 elemental mastery, 38.1% crit rate, 145.6% crit damage, 231.4% energy recharge

  • Bennett:

Weapon: Favonius Sword

Artefact set: 4p Noblesse Oblige (sands hp%, goblet hp%, circlet healing bonus)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 30k hp, 220.7% energy recharge

Ayato, Nahida, Raiden, Kokomi

Another hyperbloom team, this time centred around a hydro main dps. When I first got Ayato, I used him as a sub-dps in my Ayaka team, and replaced him with Ganyu when I got her, which allowed me to build a team with Ayato as the main dps. While I do find this team less strong than Alhaitham’s hyperbloom team, it still remains a solid option. The use of both Nahida and Raiden allows for consistent dendro and electro off-field damage, which is great since Ayato’s short skill cooldown means he can pretty much be on-field all the time

Build

  • Ayato:

Weapon: The Black Sword (or Amenoma Kageuchi)

Artefact set: 4p Heart of Depth (sands atk%, goblet, hydro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Skill > Normal Attack > Burst

My overall stats: 1,768 attack, 53.6% crit rate, 188.7% crit damage

  • Nahida:

Weapon: Magic Guide (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Deepwood Memories (sands elemental mastery, goblet dendro damage, circlet crit rate)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst

My overall stats: 630 elemental mastery, 50.5% crit rate, 92.7% crit damage

  • Raiden:

Weapon: Dragon’s Bane

Artefact set: 4p Flower of Paradise Lost (sands elemental mastery, goblet elemental mastery, circlet elemental mastery)

Talents priority: In elemental mastery build, not necessary to level talents

My overall stats: 939 elemental mastery, 25.6% crit rate, 57.8% crit damage, 147.5% energy recharge

  • Kokomi:

Weapon: Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Tenacity of the Millelith (sands hp%, goblet hp%, circlet healing bonus)

Talents priority: Skill > Burst > Normal attack

My overall stats: 40k hp, 149.2% energy recharge

Honourable mention: Raiden, Xingqiu, Xiangling, Bennett

While I’ve personally never really vibed with this team, a lot of Genshin Impact players are raving about how fun and strong it is. Plus, it does have the benefit of having only one 5-star character, which makes this team easier to build for F2P players and those who don’t have a lot of 5-star characters.

Build

  • Raiden:

Weapon: The Catch (r5)

Artefact set: 4p Emblem of Severed Fate (sands energy recharge, goblet electro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill > Normal Attack

My overall stats: 26.8% crit rate, 155.7% crit damage, 252.2% energy recharge

  • Xingqiu:

Weapon: Sacrificial Sword

Artefact set: 4p Emblem of Severed Fate (sand energy recharge, goblet hydro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 21.3% crit rate, 115% crit damage, 281.5% energy recharge

  • Xiangling:

Weapon: Dragon’s Bane

Artefact set: 4p Crimson Witch of Flames (sands energy recharge, goblet pyro damage, circlet crit damage)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 376 elemental mastery, 38.1% crit rate, 145.6% crit damage, 185.5% energy recharge

  • Bennett:

Weapon: Favonius Sword

Artefact set: 4p Noblesse Oblige (sands hp%, goblet hp%, circlet healing bonus)

Talents priority: Burst > Skill

My overall stats: 30k hp, 220.7% energy recharge

I have tried many other teams in Genshin Impact, and will try a lot more as the game progresses, but these 6 are the ones I enjoy the most. Of course, just because I love them does not mean you will, but I hope this article at least helped you if you were undecisive about which team you wanted to try next, or what characters to pull.
